Somali Leadership Awards 2026 Celebrates Excellence and Outstanding Contributions in Mogadishu

The Eighth edition of the Somali Leadership Awards was held in Mogadishu, bringing together government officials, parliamentarians, business leaders, academics, civil society representatives, and distinguished guests to recognize individuals and institutions making significant contributions to Somalia’s development.

The annual awards ceremony honored outstanding achievements across a range of sectors, including government, business, healthcare, civil society, women’s empowerment, and youth development.

Opening the ceremony, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed (Yalaxow), Director of the Somali Leadership Awards, noted the importance of recognizing individuals whose dedication and service contribute to the progress of Somali society.

“The most valuable recognition that can be given to someone who has worked hard is to say: Thank you for the work you have done; we appreciate your efforts.”

The event brought together prominent national figures, including Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H.E. Saalim Caliyow Ibroow; Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister H.E. Khersi Jama Gaani; MP Abdirahman Mohamed Sheikh; Senator Prof. Osman Mahmoud Dufle; and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Ameriko).

During the ceremony, award recipients were recognized for their leadership, professional excellence, innovation, public service, and contributions to their communities and the country.

Speakers at the event praised the Somali Leadership Awards for promoting a culture of recognition and encouraging individuals and institutions to continue making positive contributions to Somalia.

The ceremony was officially closed by former Prime Minister of Somalia H.E. Ali Mohamed Geedi, who emphasized the importance of celebrating those who contribute to the country’s development and inspiring others to follow their example.

For the past eight years, the Somali Leadership Awards has continued to recognize and celebrate outstanding Somali leaders and institutions, with a vision that today’s achievements can inspire tomorrow’s leaders.
