Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the death of Tooro King Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, describing his death as a loss for the Tooro Kingdom, Uganda and the wider region.
In a condolence message to Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Kenyatta extended his sympathies to Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, the Tooro royal family and the people of Uganda.
Kenyatta praised King Oyo’s leadership and commitment to the development and welfare of the people of Tooro. He also highlighted the monarch’s engagement with national and local governments to support development initiatives in the kingdom.
Kenyatta said the king’s death would leave a lasting void and expressed solidarity with the royal family and the people of Tooro during the mourning period.
King Oyo is due to be buried on Saturday at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal, following a national funeral service at St. John’s Cathedral.
Government officials, cultural leaders, diplomats and mourners have gathered in Fort Portal for the funeral and to pay their respects to the late monarch.
Kenyatta concluded his message by offering prayers for the late king and wishing him eternal peace.
