Somalia and Malaysia Sign MOUs on Digital Governance and Cybersecurity

CYBERJAYA (LM) The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of Somalia has signed two separate Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with the Malaysian Communications and Media Authority (MCMC) and the Malaysian Cybersecurity Authority (CyberSecurity Malaysia).

These agreements aim to strengthen multi-faceted cooperation in digital governance, technical collaboration, and enhancing cybersecurity measures between the two nations.

The first agreement with the Malaysian Communications and Media Authority focuses on cooperation in several key areas, including the development of 5G regulatory and technical frameworks, the exchange of telecommunications governance policies, and short-term training programs. This partnership is expected to bolster institutional capacity and lay the groundwork for broader collaboration in sharing experiences related to telecommunications governance and the development of the digital economy.

The second agreement, signed with CyberSecurity Malaysia, outlines a framework for joint efforts in tackling common cybersecurity challenges. This includes initiatives for preventing and responding to cyberattacks, exchanging threat intelligence, monitoring technological security trends, and fostering cooperation in cyber diplomacy. Additionally, the agreement includes Somalia’s participation in the Global ACE international training program, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity capabilities.

These MOUs mark a significant step forward in Somalia’s efforts to advance its digital infrastructure and strengthen its cybersecurity framework, reflecting a commitment to fostering international partnerships in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
