Erdoğan Warns of Threats to Family Institution in Türkiye

Istanbul (LM) Speaking at a women’s association event in Istanbul, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed deep concerns about the current state of family institutions in Türkiye, stating that families are being undermined like never before. He highlighted that this challenge is not unique to Türkiye but is a global issue.

Erdoğan warned that, according to even the most optimistic projections, the Turkish population is expected to shift from growth to decline within the next decade. “If the current situation continues, our population is expected to decrease by 10 million by the end of the century,” he said, emphasizing the implications this decline could have for the country’s future.

He described the potential demographic changes as a “worrying future” for Türkiye, particularly in terms of population stability and growth. In response, Erdoğan pointed to his administration’s ongoing efforts to combat population decline through a series of new policies aimed at supporting families.

“However, we cannot reach the point we aim for without changing minds, satisfying hearts, and especially without destroying false perceptions,” he stated. He stressed that relying solely on positivism to explain and solve these issues would be a waste of time.
