African Union and United Nations Leaders Discuss Strengthening Partnership

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (LM) H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, engaged in productive discussions today with Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU).

The meeting highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN). During the discussions, Mr. Onanga-Anyanga conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes from UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In response, Chairperson Youssouf expressed profound gratitude for the UN’s ongoing support and impactful initiatives across AU member states.

Both leaders underscored their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation between their organizations, particularly in the areas of peace, security, and preventive diplomacy throughout Africa. “Our collaborative efforts are vital for addressing the myriad challenges facing the continent,” Chairperson Youssouf stated, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling issues such as conflict resolution and sustainable development.
