Former President of Somalia Warns Against Factionalism in Somalia

Mogadishu (LM) Former President of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has issued a stark warning regarding the dangers of prioritizing factionalism over national unity and the common good, arguing that such actions jeopardize the stability of Somalia.

In a recent statement, Farmaajo criticized President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for allegedly violating the constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, particularly Articles 87, 50, 92, and 65. These articles outline the obligations to uphold the constitution, the role of the National Consultative Forum in decision-making, the federalization process, and the responsibilities of the Speaker of the Federal Parliament, who is prohibited from being affiliated with any political party.

Farmaajo called on President Hassan Sheikh to fulfill the promises made during the National Consultative Conference, urging him to expand the advisory council and lead the country towards unity and solidarity. “We must return to legitimacy and inclusive politics to navigate out of the current crisis,” he stated.

The former president specifically urged the current administration to reverse unilateral decisions that have contributed to political discord, including the suspension of the elected constitution, unfinished legislative work, and the dismantling of the National Consultative Forum. He emphasized that these actions have led to a political deadlock that could have been avoided.

Additionally, Farmaajo expressed concern over the misuse of state resources for political campaigns and private organizations, noting that this misappropriation has adversely affected the armed forces, national media, and civil servants.

As Somalia navigates its complex political landscape, Farmaajo’s comments highlight the urgent need for unity and adherence to constitutional principles to ensure the nation’s stability and progress.
