National Conference on Anticipatory Action Strategy Concluded in Mogadishu

The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) , Mr. Mahmoud Macalin Abdulle, has concluded a national-level conference aimed at developing the National Strategy for Anticipatory Action. This strategy is essential for guiding disaster preparedness and response efforts across the country.

Over the course of three days, the conference generated actionable recommendations designed to enhance Somalia’s capacity for effective disaster management. The launch of this National Strategy is regarded as a significant step toward strengthening the country’s ability to anticipate disasters and implement immediate actions that can save lives and safeguard community assets.

Participants included senior officials from various humanitarian organizations, including the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). These officials expressed their support and praised the collaborative spirit shown during the event.

In his closing remarks, Chairman Abdulle emphasized that the roadmap developed during the conference is the culmination of extensive technical work, national consultations, and robust partnerships among government agencies, IGAD, and other stakeholders. The initiative is supported by the SCALAA project, funded by DG ECHO and implemented in collaboration with WFP, FAO, IFRC, DRC, and ICPAC.

This concerted effort illustrates the collective commitment to a coordinated and anticipatory approach to mitigate crises in the region.

Recently, a series of national-level consultations, technical analyses, and review meetings have been conducted, involving SoDMA, diverse government ministries, and experts from humanitarian and development sectors. These discussions have ensured that the roadmap is evidence-based and tailored to the current needs of the country.

As Somalia prepares to implement this National Strategy for Anticipatory Action, the focus remains on enhancing resilience and promoting sustainable development across vulnerable communities.
