Somali Police and UNDP Discuss Election Security and Force Development

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali Police Force (SPF) Commander, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, met with UNDP Resident Representative in Somalia, Lionel Laurens, and senior UNDP officials at his office today to discuss crucial issues related to election security and the ongoing development of the police force.
The meeting focused primarily on ensuring the safety and security of voters during the upcoming elections, a responsibility constitutionally mandated to the Somali Police Force. Discussions centered on strategies to enhance police preparedness and responsiveness to potential security threats during the electoral period.
“The Somali Police Force is committed to protecting the security of all citizens during the elections,” stated Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi. “We appreciate the UNDP’s continued support in helping us strengthen our capacity to fulfill this vital responsibility.”
Lionel Laurens, UNDP Resident Representative, reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to supporting the development of the Somali Police Force. “The UNDP is proud to partner with the Somali Police Force in its efforts to provide security and maintain law and order,” said Laurens. “We are committed to working together to build a professional and accountable police force that serves the needs of the Somali people.”
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to continued collaboration and partnership in support of a secure, stable, and democratic Somalia. The UNDP has been a long-standing partner of the Somali Police Force, providing support in various areas, including training, equipment, and institutional development.
