Safe Reporters of Somalia Warns of Rising Violence Against Journalists in New Report

Mogadishu (LM) Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) released a report detailing the attacks on journalists that have occurred across the country over the past three months.

The report presented by SRS indicates that 34 journalists have experienced various forms of attacks, including two women. Alarmingly, only two journalists in Benadir and Somaliland have seen their attackers brought to justice.

On the event of November 2, recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against the Press, SRS urged all parties to cease the ongoing attacks against journalists.

“The government and regional administrations must hold all parties involved in the attacks on journalists accountable under this law,” SRS stated, emphasizing the urgent need for protective measures for media professionals.

This report sheds light on the dangerous environment that journalists face in Somalia and underscores the importance of safeguarding press freedom in the region.
