Prime Minister Meets New UK Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Mogadishu, Sunday, July 13, 2025 – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hamsa Abdi Barre, welcomed the new UK Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Charles Nicholas King, to his office for discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
During their meeting, the Prime Minister and Ambassador King focused on key areas of collaboration, including security, political stability, efforts to combat the Khawarij, upcoming elections, and the acceleration of development projects supported by the UK in Somalia.
Prime Minister Barre highlighted recent achievements in the fight against the Khawarij and the ongoing implementation of one-person, one-vote elections, which empower citizens to choose their leaders. He noted that this electoral process is currently being conducted in various parts of the country.
In response, Ambassador King expressed his support for the constructive dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Rescue Forum, emphasizing the importance of state-building initiatives and the progress made in enhancing security and combating militant groups.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a strong partnership that addresses the challenges facing Somalia and promotes sustainable development in the region.
