Djibouti Appoints Abdoulkader Houssein Omar as New Minister of Foreign Affairs

Djibouti City (LM) President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh has officially appointed Abdoulkader Houssein Omar as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and Government Spokesperson. This appointment comes after Mahamoud Ali Youssouf vacated the position to assume his role as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), a transition that took place in April 2024.

Abdoulkader Houssein Omar brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served in various diplomatic capacities within the Djiboutian government. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance Djibouti’s foreign relations and elevate its presence on the international stage.

In his first statement as Minister, Omar expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to continue the work of his predecessor. “I am committed to furthering Djibouti’s diplomatic goals and strengthening our ties with both regional and global partners,” he stated.

The appointment has been met with positive reactions from political analysts and diplomats, who believe that Omar’s experience and vision will be crucial in navigating the complex geopolitical landscape of the Horn of Africa.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar will be responsible for overseeing Djibouti’s foreign policy initiatives and representing the country in international forums. His leadership is anticipated to play a key role in addressing pressing regional issues and promoting peace and stability in the area.
