PRESIDENT XASAN SHEIKH LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR THE NEW MOGADISHU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Warsheekh, June 29, 2025 – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the New Mogadishu International Airport, which will be established in the Warsheekh district of the Middle Shabelle region.
The President stated that this project is crucial for the development and connectivity of the country, particularly in the aviation sector, and the improvement of economic infrastructure. He emphasized that this airport will be modern and fully serve the Somali community as well as international flights to Somalia.
The President noted that this project, which will be implemented by a Somali company, demonstrates the recovery of the country and the capability of the Somali people to liberate areas currently under the influence of terrorism while simultaneously building infrastructure and enhancing the country’s image.
President Hassan Sheikh was accompanied at the foundation-laying ceremony by the President of Hirshabelle State, Mr. Ali Abdullah Hussein, the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banaadir Region, Mr. Hassan Mohammed Hussein, the Minister of Trade and Industry of the Federal Government, Mr. Mahmoud Aden Geesood, the State Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Mr. Abdikarim Abdow Heydar, and the Director General of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Ahmed Mallin Hassan.
