National Conference on Disaster Preparedness Launched in Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamud Moalin Abdulle, officially opened a two-day national conference focused on developing a comprehensive strategy for disaster preparedness and response in the country.
During the opening remarks, the significance of having a robust action plan to address potential disasters before they occur was emphasized. Mr. Abdulle underscored the necessity of preparing both government agencies and communities to effectively mitigate the impacts of emergencies.
Senior officials from key organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) attended the conference. The IGAD Ambassador to Somalia and various other agencies were also present, highlighting the collaborative effort required for successful disaster management.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Abdulle noted the conference as a testament to SoDMA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and prevention efforts. He expressed gratitude to international organizations for their continued support of the Somali people, reinforcing the importance of partnership in tackling disaster-related challenges.
This conference marks a significant step towards establishing a coordinated approach to disaster management in Somalia, aiming to safeguard communities and reduce vulnerabilities in the face of emergencies.
