Widespread Drought Hits Somalia: Experts Call for National Response

Mogadishu (LM), Somalia, is currently facing a severe drought that is more widespread than in previous years, threatening livelihoods and food security across the country.
“The drought currently affecting the country is more widespread than previous droughts, and it can be addressed through a national plan that includes both mitigation and prevention measures,” said Prof. Cabdullaahi Sheekh Cali Qalloocow, former Deputy Minister of Finance.
Experts warn that without coordinated action, the drought could exacerbate existing humanitarian challenges, including water shortages and food insecurity. Authorities and humanitarian organizations are urged to implement both immediate relief efforts and long-term strategies to prevent similar crises in the future.
