IGAD Secretary-General Chairs Ministerial Regional Stock-Taking Meeting on Displacement Solutions
Nairobi, Kenya – The Executive Secretary-General of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, today chaired the IGAD Ministerial Regional Stock-Taking Meeting of the IGAD Support Platform. The meeting focused on assessing the progress made in addressing displacement issues and identifying durable solutions for affected communities.
During his opening remarks, Dr. Workneh highlighted several key points: Significant Progress Since 2017: The region has made important strides in protection and durable solutions for displaced individuals since 2017.
Community Involvement: Dr. Workneh noted the necessity for the entire community to take an active role in managing displacement.
He underscored that regional collaboration is essential for effectively addressing migration and displacement challenges.
The Secretary-General called for a collective commitment to strengthening community resilience in the face of ongoing displacement crises.
Dr. Workneh reiterated that IGAD remains the most vital forum for member states to coordinate and collaborate in developing integrated solutions that effectively serve displaced communities.
