Somali President Opens 7th Session of Somalia’s 11th Parliament

Mogadishu, Somalia – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, officially inaugurated the 7th session of the 11th Parliament today. During the ceremony, he praised the leadership and members of both the House of the People and the Senate for their significant contributions in previous sessions.
In his constitutional address to lawmakers, President Mohamud highlighted essential issues such as security, upcoming elections, and economic infrastructure developments. Notably, he announced plans to increase the number of teachers in schools to 10,000, aiming to bolster the education system across the nation.
“The number of teachers in schools will be increased to 10,000 to improve education in the country,” President Mohamud affirmed.
Furthermore, the President discussed advancements in the country’s economic infrastructure, revealing that drilling for Somalia’s first oil well is set to commence in the coming months. He emphasized that the country has reached a level of economic and security self-sufficiency.
“In the coming months, drilling for the first oil well will commence in Somalia,” he stated.
The opening session was attended by key figures, including the Speaker of the House of the People, Mr. Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nuur (Madoobe), the Speaker of the Senate, Mr. Cabdi Xaashi Cabdullaahi, and the Prime Minister, Mr. Hamse Abdi Barre, alongside members of both parliamentary houses.
The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Sheikh Aadan Madoobe, stated that this session of Parliament will focus on reviewing and completing the constitution and other important laws that the members are tasked with.
“The House of the People will concentrate on the review and completion of the constitution, as well as the election of representatives for Somalia in the East African Parliament,” said Sheikh Aadan Madoobe.
The Speaker of the Senate of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Cabdi Xaashi Cabdullaahi, also spoke and stated:
“The Senate proposes the establishment of a Judicial Service Council, a Constitutional Court for the country, and the acceleration of the status of the capital, Mogadishu.”
This session marks a crucial step in addressing legislative priorities and fostering national development in Somalia.
