AU Commission Chairperson Calls for Stable Funding to Support AUSSOM Mandate

Kampala (LM) Today, H.E. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, emphasized the urgent need for stable and sustained funding to ensure that the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) can effectively deliver on its mandate. His remarks came during a high-level meeting with Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministers from AUSSOM Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) and Somalia.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including AU Commissioner Amb. Bankole Adeoye, AU Chief of Staff Amb. Mohamed El-Amine Souef, AUSSOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma, and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) ASG Aisa Kacyira.
Also present were the Chiefs of Defence Forces from TCCs and partners from the European Union, United States, United Kingdom, and IGAD, who are collaborating in support of AUSSOM’s mission.
The discussions were held in anticipation of the upcoming AUSSOM Heads of State Summit scheduled for April 25, where further strategies and commitments will be addressed to bolster support for the mission in Somalia. Chairperson Youssouf’s call for funding reflects a critical step in ensuring the continued stability and effectiveness of AUSSOM in its efforts to support peace and security in the region.
