Somalia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Jamal Mohamed Hassan, held a productive meeting with H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The meeting focused on strengthening relations and cooperation between Somalia and the African Union, with particular attention to Somalia’s ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the opportunities the agreement could create for the country.
The two sides also discussed the broader regional situation and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in trade, economic development, investment, and regional integration.
Somalia’s participation in AfCFTA is expected to create new opportunities to expand trade, increase exports, attract investment, and connect Somali businesses and locally produced goods with markets across the African continent.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues to strengthen its engagement with African institutions and economic integration initiatives, with a focus on enabling Somali businesses and domestic producers to benefit from the opportunities created by the continent-wide market.
Minister Jamal Mohamed Hassan highlighted the importance of further strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the African Union, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic development.
The meeting represents an important step toward deepening Somalia’s partnership with the African Union and advancing economic cooperation, with stronger regional integration expected to contribute to Somalia’s economic growth and greater participation in the African market.
