Mogadishu Mayor Inaugurates New Girls’ School in Heliwa to Boost Education Access

Mogadishu (LM) The governor of Somalia’s Banadir region and mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), inaugurated a new girls’ school in the Heliwaa district of the capital on Monday, underscoring local authorities’ efforts to expand access to education, particularly for girls. Speaking at the opening ceremony of Darmooley Girls’ School, Muungaab said the project reflected the Banadir regional administration’s ongoing commitment to improving education services in Mogadishu.

The Mayor described education as a cornerstone of sustainable development, peace, and long-term stability.

Residents in Heliwaa welcomed the opening, saying the school would play a significant role in improving the prospects of children in the district, especially girls. The Banadir regional administration said it remains committed to implementing development projects focused on education, healthcare, and social services as part of broader efforts to accelerate Mogadishu’s recovery and development.
