Somalia Officially Establishes the National Human Rights Commission

Mogadishu, December 10, 2025 – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today signed the law for the establishment of the National Human Rights Commission, following the approval of its members by both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The President stated that the establishment of this Commission reflects Somalia’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its citizens. He praised the cooperation between the Parliament and the Government, which was fundamental in creating and ensuring the compliance of the Human Rights law with both legal and religious standards.
Furthermore, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud commended the Ministry of Family Affairs and Human Rights for its efforts in leading the preparation of the legal and technical framework that enabled the establishment of the Commission, ready to undertake its national responsibilities.
The President prayed for God’s assistance for the members of the Commission in their work and reminded them of the responsibilities expected of them in protecting human rights and strengthening a governance system based on justice, accountability, and transparency.
