Former President of Somalia Calls Urgent Action Amidst Drought Crisis in the Country

Mogadishu, Somalia – Former President H.E. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Somalia, which has been exacerbated by ongoing drought conditions. He stated that nearly 5 million people are currently affected and have not received adequate assistance in relation to their dire needs, which have intensified over the past two years.

“In light of this crisis, I call on the Somali people, especially scholars and businessmen, to step forward and support our suffering communities,” stated Farmaajo. “International humanitarian aid has significantly decreased and currently meets only 25% of the emergency needs of those impacted.”

The former president said the importance of unity, urging the Somali diaspora and leaders at both the federal and state levels to come together in response to this challenging situation. He also called upon the international community to expedite the delivery of emergency assistance to the thousands of families in urgent need.

Farmaajo concluded with a prayer for the nation: “I pray to Allah to grant our country and our people patience during these difficult times, and to bless us with the mercy of rain, which is vital for the survival of the Somali people.”
