Somali Government Approves Key Laws and Agreements

Mogadishu (LM) The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia convened today for its weekly meeting and approved several crucial laws and agreements aimed at advancing the country’s development and addressing pressing issues.
Among the significant approvals were: A Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of Somalia and Rwanda, focusing on cooperation, and the Draft Law on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation, designed to protect women’s rights and prevent violence against them, The National Strategy on Women, Peace, and Security emphasizes women’s active role in the nation’s development, The Charter of the International Organization of Mobile Satellites enables Somalia to participate in satellite services and research, The National Ports Strategy, aimed at enhancing the country’s port operations.
Chaired by Prime Minister Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre, the meeting also featured discussions on the overall security situation, the Somali Justice Conference, and ongoing drought challenges affecting the nation.
Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, Commissioner of the Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), presented a report on current relief efforts and strategies to tackle the drought, revealing that approximately 4.4 million people require assistance.
In response to the urgent situation, Prime Minister Barre urged government agencies to act swiftly to provide necessary relief for those affected by the drought.
