Egypt and African Union Discuss Troop Deployment for AUSSOM Mission

Mogadishu (LM) Dr. Badr Al-Atty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, engaged with Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, during the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, to discuss the preparation and deployment of Egyptian troops for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Minister Dr. Al-Atty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting the AUSSOM mission, indicating its vital role in maintaining security and stability in Somalia. He stated, “We are dedicated to ensuring the success of the AUSSOM mission and recognize the importance of securing adequate and sustainable funding to effectively carry out its mandate in collaboration with our international partners.”

The discussions indicate Egypt’s longstanding position in supporting joint African efforts aimed at enhancing peace and stability not only in Somalia but across the Horn of Africa. The Minister’s remarks reflect a broader commitment to regional security and cooperation, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a key player in African Union initiatives.
