Somalia Represented in 151st World Parliament Assembly in Geneva

Geneva (LM)The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Omar Abshir, is leading a delegation of members from both houses of Parliament at the 151st World Parliament Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
In his address at the assembly, Speaker Abshir highlighted the current situation in Somalia, focusing on the legislative efforts of the Somali Parliament. He emphasized the recent passage of laws addressing social issues, humanitarian concerns, and the support for internally displaced persons and refugees. “Somalia has opened its doors to refugees from war-torn nations like Yemen and Syria, showcasing our commitment to humanitarian principles,” he stated.
During the assembly, the Somali delegation voted on two significant motions: the Organized Crime Bill submitted for consideration and a proposal from Madagascar aimed at finding sustainable solutions to the challenges that country faces.
The 151st World Parliament Assembly, which includes various discussions among participating delegations, is set to conclude today, Wednesday. Throughout the assembly, Speaker Abshir will engage in private meetings with his counterparts and representatives from international organizations based at the World Parliament headquarters in Geneva.
This participation underscores Somalia’s commitment to engaging with global partners to address pressing issues and strengthen international cooperation.
