Somalia Returns 173 Citizens Released from Prisons in Libya

Mogadishu (LM), the Somali government repatriated 173 citizens who were released from prisons in Libya. The flight carrying the repatriated citizens brought 151 individuals, mostly young people, to Mogadishu, where they received a warm welcome at Aadan Cadde Airport from officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the Office of the Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Government for the Return of Migrants and Children’s Rights, the Somali National Refugee and Displaced Persons Agency, the Special Envoy of the European Union, and the IOM, which assisted the government in the repatriation of these citizens.
Among those returned today, 22 were disembarked in Hargeisa, while the remaining 151 were brought to Mogadishu. The young people, who spoke to the media, expressed their happiness at returning to their homeland, thanking the government for rescuing them from the hardships they faced in Libyan prisons.
