Northeastern State of Somalia Officially Established: A Milestone for Local Governance
Laas’aano (LM)In a historic move, the Northeast State has been officially established, marking a significant milestone for local governance and community empowerment. The formation of the state is the result of a collective effort by the residents of the Sool and Sanaag regions, who expressed their strong desire for autonomy and self-governance.
The decision was made following a series of community meetings where citizens voiced their aspirations for improved representation and resource allocation. The initiative gained momentum, leading to formal recognition by federal authorities.
Local leaders emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting how it allows for tailored policies that better reflect the needs and values of the community. The state is expected to focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
“I would like to greatly commend the completion of the process for establishing the Northeastern State. This is a historic achievement that reflects the efforts, unity, and aspirations of the people in these regions.” Said, Gamal Mohamed Hassan, Former Minister of Planning of the Federal Government.
“I would especially like to thank the Federal Government of Somalia for its significant role in the establishment of this administration, the leadership of SSC-Khaatumo, and various sectors of the armed forces; the traditional elders who played a crucial role in uniting and bringing the community together, the delegates, the various committees, and all societal stakeholders who demonstrated patience, hospitality, and civility.” Minister Gamal added.
