Minister of Agriculture of Somalia Meets IGAD Executive Secretary to Strengthen Cooperation

Addis Ababa (LM-Somalia) – The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Maxamed Cabdi Xayir (Maareeye), visited the office of Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), today.
The meeting centered on enhancing collaboration between Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and IGAD. Key topics included strategies for improving food security in Somalia, stimulating economic growth, and creating training and job opportunities for Somali youth, especially in the agricultural sector.
Minister Maareeye emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to tackle challenges facing the agricultural industry in Somalia. He expressed optimism that strengthened ties with IGAD would facilitate the implementation of effective agricultural policies and programs.
IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint initiatives that aim to uplift community livelihoods and bolster regional stability. The discussions highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in achieving long-term economic resilience for Somalia.
