Mayor of Mogadishu Discusses Cooperation with Italian Ambassador

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), welcomed the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Pier Mario Dacco’ Coppi, at the Hamar Municipal Government House. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between local governments and strengthening ties between the Banadir Regional Administration and Italy’s Lombardy Region.
During the discussion, Mayor Muungaab praised the historic role of the Italian government in Somalia’s reconstruction and its ongoing support for stabilizing the country. He emphasized that the relationship between the Banadir Regional Administration and the Lombardy Region could facilitate valuable exchanges of experiences and knowledge, which are crucial for implementing action plans effectively.
Dr. Muungaab shared several challenges facing the Banadir Regional Administration, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, road construction, sewage systems, water supply, education, and health services. He also highlighted the need to strengthen the administrative and financial systems within the region.
In response, Ambassador Dacco’ Coppi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received at City Hall. He commended the efforts of the Banadir Regional Administration and the Somali government in their reconstruction, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism initiatives. The Ambassador assured that Italy’s ongoing presence in Somalia would significantly support these efforts at various levels.
This meeting marks a crucial step in fostering international cooperation aimed at improving the living conditions in Mogadishu and promoting sustainable development in the region.
