PRESIDENT HASSAN SHEIKH: “SOMALIA CAN SOLVE FOOD SHORTAGES AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION CONCERNS”

Addis-Ababa (LM) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in the United Nations Food Systems Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In his speech at the event, the President highlighted the importance of global cooperation in combating food shortages, climate change, and developing sustainable food systems.
The President noted that Somalia has been affected by recurring droughts and climate change, leading millions of people to face food insecurity. He emphasized that improving agricultural and livestock production systems is essential to overcome these living conditions.
“The Agricultural Development Strategy clearly defines the importance of enhancing governance, increasing productivity, building economic infrastructure, developing agricultural trade, and strengthening institutional capacity. I believe that agriculture not only feeds people but also creates jobs, strengthens peace, and prepares Somalia for a prosperous future.”
Additionally, President Hassan Sheikh mentioned the Federal Government’s National Transformation Plan, which prioritizes the development of domestic production, boosting rural economies, government and business partnerships, and building marketing systems that enhance connections between farmers and both local and international markets.
“Food security is peacebuilding, and agricultural transformation is nation-building. Every investment made is an investment in building sustainable peace and equitable economic growth.”
The President called on the international community to strengthen their support for Somalia by providing assistance for production infrastructure, green economy initiatives, and the implementation of modern agricultural technologies to create food systems that the Somali people can fully benefit from.
