Mogadishu, May 28, 2025, The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, welcomed former world football stars Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Jay-Jay Okocha at the Presidential Palace during their historic visit to Somalia.
President Mohamud thanked the football icons for their visit, which he described as a testament to Somalia’s security and recovery. “The Federal Government of Somalia is making strong efforts to develop various sports and to showcase the talents of Somali youth,” he stated.
He emphasized that the presence of these international players underscores the growing confidence in Somalia and highlights the progress made in areas such as integration and youth empowerment.
The event featured notable attendees, including Mr. Mohamed Abdiqadir Ali, Minister of Youth and Sports; Mr. Ali Abdi Mohamed, Chairman of the Somali Football Federation; Mr. Augustino Maduot Parek, Chairman of the South Sudan Football Federation; and Mr. Suleyman Hassan Waaberi, Chairman of the Djibouti Football Federation.
This visit marks a significant moment for Somalia, reinforcing the importance of sports in fostering unity and inspiring the nation’s youth.
