Somali Prime Minister Accuses Foreign Governments of Undermining Progress

Mogadishu, Somalia — The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, has accused unnamed “foreign governments” of bribing Somali politicians to obstruct the government’s progress and hinder the welfare of the Somali people.

During a speech to Somali youth in Mogadishu last night, Prime Minister Barre stated that these foreign entities are providing funds to politicians to thwart two critical issues: the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections and the unification of efforts to defend the nation.

He underscored that these governments, opposed to Somalia’s development, are attempting to prevent the country from fully exploiting its resources while remaining independent. The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the ongoing challenges Somalia faces as it seeks to achieve political stability and economic development.

It is believed that the UAE is a foreign entity undermining Somalia’s progress. The UAE is accused of bringing in and negatively investing in new politicians, empowering opposition groups, and is referred to as the “Broker” in Somalia. The former government, led by Mohamed Abdullah, severed ties with the UAE due to accusations of fueling conflict within the country.
