Somalia and U.S. Strengthen Defense Partnership

Mogadishu (LM) The Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ambassador Ahmed Moallin Fiqi, held a significant meeting today with Gen. Michael E. Langley, the Commander of the United States Africa Command (U.S. AFRICOM), alongside U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, His Excellency Richard H. Riley.

The discussions centered on enhancing the strategic partnership between Somalia and the United States in the security and defense sectors. A key focus was the acceleration of joint operations aimed at combating terrorist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab and ISIS, which pose serious threats to the stability of Somalia and the wider region.

Minister Fiqi expressed gratitude to the U.S. Government for its ongoing support, highlighting contributions in military capacity building, airstrikes, and efforts to re-liberate territories, collectively aiming to restore hope for the Somali people. He emphasized that this partnership is crucial for the success of their fight against terrorism.

As both nations continue to collaborate, they share a commitment to ensuring security and fostering peace in Somalia.
