African Union Chairperson Meets with Ethiopian President to Discuss Regional Peace

Addis Ababa-(LM) The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali, held a meeting with H.E. Taye Atske, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, at the State House. Their discussions centered on crucial issues of regional peace and security, as well as the African Union’s mediation efforts in South Sudan, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Chairperson noted the ongoing institutional reforms within the AU, particularly focusing on financial sovereignty and sustainable funding for peace support operations. He expressed gratitude for Ethiopia’s longstanding contributions to these vital areas.

In response, President Taye commended the Chairperson for his leadership and active engagement in advancing peace initiatives across the region. The meeting underscores the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing the pressing challenges facing the African continent.
