Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre Transfers Ministry of Defense to New Leadership

Mogadishu (LM) The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hamsa Abdi Barre, has officially transferred the Ministry of Defense to the new Minister, His Excellency Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, succeeding former Minister His Excellency Abdikadir Mohamed Nur.
During the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the critical role of the Ministry of Defense as the backbone of national security. He highlighted the ministry’s responsibility in developing policies aimed at reforming and upgrading the Somali National Army, which works tirelessly to defend the nation, its people, and their faith against terrorist groups, particularly the Khawarij.
“The Ministry of Defense has made significant progress, including the lifting of the arms embargo that has impacted our country for years,” stated Prime Minister Barre. He noted the successful preparation of various forces dedicated to securing the capital and the ongoing modernization efforts for the Somali National Army.
Prime Minister Barre expressed high expectations for Minister Jibril, urging him to formulate national policies focused on the defense and liberation of Somalia. He commended former Minister Abdikadir for his contributions toward establishing a capable national army prepared to confront threats and eliminate the Khawarij.
The Prime Minister called on the new Minister to accelerate military reforms and enhance cooperation among security agencies to effectively combat terrorism, ensuring a safer future for Somalia.
As the nation continues its path toward peace and stability, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense will be pivotal in addressing the ongoing security challenges.
