Putin Open to Bilateral Talks with Ukraine Amid Pressure for Peace

Moscow (LM) In a significant development, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Monday that he is open to the possibility of bilateral talks with Ukraine for the first time in years. This shift comes as the United States pressures both nations to reach a quick peace deal.
Officials from the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine are scheduled to meet this week in London. Washington has warned that it may reconsider its efforts to mediate the conflict if no progress is observed.
Speaking to reporters, Putin indicated that discussions could focus on halting strikes against civilian infrastructure directly with Kyiv. “We have a positive attitude towards a ceasefire,” he stated, referencing Russia’s recent imposition of a 30-hour Easter truce, which both sides accused each other of violating.
Putin emphasized, “That is why we have always said that we take a positive attitude to any peace initiatives. We hope that the representatives of the Kyiv regime will feel the same way.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has called for the extension of the truce before it expired on Sunday, while repeatedly accusing Russia of deliberately targeting civilians with air and drone strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Moscow to stop such attacks.
As the situation develops, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
