Marko-(LM) Mohamed Hassan Omar, a 70-year-old resident of Marko, has emerged victorious in his long battle against kidney disease, a journey that began six years ago with debilitating pain and swelling throughout his body.
In 2022, Mohamed’s condition worsened dramatically, leading to a coma that required urgent medical intervention. He was initially taken to Kalkaal Hospital and later transferred to Dar es Salaam Hospital for specialized care. After three days, he regained consciousness, only to learn that he was facing kidney failure and would need dialysis twice a week.
The financial burden of his treatment was overwhelming, with each dialysis session costing $45, totaling over $400 per month for necessary medications. Unfortunately, Mohamed and his family were unable to afford these expenses.
In a stroke of hope, they discovered the Hormuud Salaam Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals in need of dialysis by covering their medical costs. After submitting a request for help, Mohamed was accepted as a patient by the foundation.
For the past two and a half years, he has received consistent care and support, funded entirely by the Hormuud Salaam Foundation. Thanks to their assistance and the dedication of his medical team, Mohamed’s health has significantly improved. Recently, doctors informed him that his kidneys have recovered, and he will no longer require dialysis.
“Thank God, I am now recovering,” Mohamed expressed with gratitude. “I am immensely thankful to the Hormuud Salaam Foundation for taking care of my treatment and covering all my medical expenses. May God bless them.”
Mohamed Hassan Omar’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of community support and resilience in overcoming health challenges. His recovery not only brings hope to himself but also inspires others facing similar struggles in the region.
