Somalia Terminates All Cooperation Agreements with UAE

Mogadishu (LM) The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, has officially annulled all agreements and understandings with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) concerning bilateral security and defense cooperation.
This decision affects all collaborations tied to the strategic ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo. The cancellation follows the emergence of reports and evidence suggesting actions that jeopardize Somalia’s sovereignty, national unity, and political independence.
In a statement, the Somali government underscored its commitment to safeguarding its sovereign rights related to territorial integrity, port management, security affairs, and foreign relations. “Our responsibilities toward our nation and people remain paramount,” the statement read.
Additionally, the Council of Ministers approved a draft law aimed at protecting Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Notably, the draft law prohibits local administrations and private organizations from entering into agreements with foreign entities without prior notification and approval from the Federal Government. It mandates that such agreements receive oversight from the relevant ministry, reinforcing the central government’s authority over international relations.
This announcement comes amid growing concerns over foreign influence in Somali affairs, highlighting the administration’s renewed focus on reclaiming and securing national sovereignty.
