Somali Prime Minister Launches Internet Governance Forum, Calls for Enhanced Digital Regulations

Mogadishu (LM) The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, launched the Somali Internet Governance Forum, emphasizing the importance of producing effective measures to enhance the governance and system of Internet use in the country.
The Prime Minister stated that Somalia needs to align with other countries that have established clear systems and laws for Internet use in order to prevent violations and uphold digital ethics. “The Internet Governance Forum should generate practical recommendations that we can present at international technology conferences. The Internet is regulated in countries around the world, and it cannot be used indiscriminately. Laws have been enacted to classify violations as criminal offenses. Unfortunately, our people have used it differently from the rest of the world, and this situation must change,” the Prime Minister remarked.
He underscored the significance of protecting national unity, urging all citizens and private companies to collaborate in developing the country while safeguarding the public interest. He called on Internet companies to serve society fairly and to avoid engaging in competition that does not contribute to the overall development of the nation.
The Prime Minister has finally said that the Somali Government will intensify efforts to establish modern laws and procedures to govern the Internet, ensuring digital security, user rights, and the advancement of the country’s digital economy.
