Somali Prime Minister Discusses with New Head of AUSSOM on Security Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia (LM)-The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hamsa Abdi Barre, welcomed Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), along with his Deputy, His Excellency Mouktar Ousman Karie, at his office.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Hamsa highlighted the ongoing operations aimed at eradicating Khawarij groups, emphasizing the significant progress made in combating terrorism in the region. He expressed gratitude for the crucial role played by African Union forces as part of the AUSSOM operations.

Ambassador Diene, in response, thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and commended the Somali government and its people for their dedication to security and reconstruction efforts. He reaffirmed the African Union’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s transition plan, which aims to empower the Somali Armed Forces to take over the country’s security responsibilities.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Somalia and the African Union in addressing security challenges and promoting stability within the nation.
