Somali President Hassan Appoints New Banadir Regional Governor and Mayor of Mogadishu

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has appointed Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab as the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, following a proposal from the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs & Reconciliation.
This appointment is based on Dr. Muungaab’s extensive knowledge and previous experience in the role, where he played a significant part in the reconstruction of Mogadishu and the enhancement of services provided by the Banadir Regional Administration.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged the new Governor to focus on several key priorities: the development of the capital, fostering reconciliation, strengthening cooperation between security forces and the community, beautifying the city, and expanding basic services. “These are essential priorities for our government,” he stated.
The President expressed his hopes for Dr. Muungaab, wishing that God would ease the responsibilities he is set to undertake. He also called on all government agencies to collaborate closely with the new administration to ensure effective governance in the Banadir Region.
This Presidential Decree officially appointing Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab is expected to take effect, marking a new chapter in the leadership of Mogadishu.
Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab has a distinguished record of service to the nation, having held key positions including Chairman of the Military Court, Governor of Banadir Region, and Mayor of Mogadishu. His extensive experience in these roles has significantly contributed to the governance and development of the capital and its surrounding areas.
