Somali President Commemorates SYL Independence Struggle

Mogadishu (LM) President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia laid flowers at the SYL monument in Mogadishu to honor the struggle for independence led by the Somali Youth League (SYL).
During the ceremony, the President congratulated Somali youth on this significant day, acknowledging their vital contributions to the nation’s development and their ongoing efforts to combat extremism. “The youth of Somalia have played an essential role in our journey toward peace and prosperity,” he stated.
At the SYL Heroes Monument, President Mohamud paid tribute to the 13 young leaders who spearheaded the country’s fight for independence. He urged all Somalis to uphold the values of unity, solidarity, and statehood, which were fundamental to the SYL’s mission.
The commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for Somalia’s freedom and the importance of continuing the legacy of the youth who fought for the nation’s sovereignty. The President’s message resonated with those present, inspiring a renewed commitment to national unity and progress.
