Somali Parliament Leaders Discuss EALA Representation and Constitutional Review

Mogadishu (LM) The Speakers of the two Houses of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia convened today at the residence of Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi to discuss key legislative matters impacting the country. A primary focus of the meeting was the acceleration of the election process for members to represent Somalia in the East African Community Legislative Assembly (EALA). This representation is deemed vital for ensuring that the Somali community has a voice within the East African Community.
In addition to EALA representation, the Speakers addressed the ongoing review of the Transitional Constitution. They noted that both Houses of Parliament have already approved the first four chapters of the Constitution, marking a significant step in the constitutional reform process.
The discussions highlighted the commitment of the Somali Parliament to strengthen governance and enhance the country’s participation in regional affairs. The leaders expressed optimism about the progress being made and emphasized the importance of the timely completion of the electoral and constitutional processes for the benefit of the Somali people.
