Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency donate $14,400 for drought relief

MOGADISHU, March 9 (LM) – Staff of Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency on Sunday donated $14,400 to support drought relief efforts, handing the funds to a local charity group assisting communities affected by severe water shortages.
The contribution, raised collectively by employees of the agency, was presented during a ceremony in Mogadishu to Daryeel Bulsho, a youth-led organization actively involved in delivering emergency assistance to drought-affected communities across Somalia. The funds are expected to support the provision of water, food, and other urgent relief supplies.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad, chairman of the Somali Scholars Association, who attended the event, called on Somalis to support one another during difficult times such as drought and humanitarian crises.
Mohamed Ali Siyad, known as “Champion”, chairman of Daryeel Bulsho, said the Immigration and Citizenship Agency was the first government institution to respond to the organization’s appeal for drought assistance. He thanked the agency’s staff for their solidarity and support.
Osman Mohyadin Shaatax, chairman of the Civil Society Organizations Network, also welcomed the initiative, saying it could encourage other institutions to contribute to drought response efforts.
Mustafa Duhulow, Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, urged Somali youth to continue playing an active role in humanitarian activities and supporting vulnerable communities. He noted the alarming reality that some Somalis continue to die from water shortages, stressing the need for stronger collective action to support those affected by drought.
