Somali Deputy PM: One-Person, One-Vote Elections Empower Citizens to Elect Their Leaders

Mogadishu (LM) The Somali Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude during his visit to the Taleex Department in Hodan District, where he participated in voter registration for the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections.

“It was a great honor for me to visit Taleex today and engage with Somali citizens in this vital democratic process,” he stated. “One-person, one-vote elections restore citizens to their fundamental right to directly elect their leaders and to run for the leadership of the country, thereby ensuring the principle that the power of government comes from the people.”

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the significance of these elections in empowering citizens and reinforcing democratic values in Somalia. He encouraged all eligible voters to take part in the registration process and to prepare for the elections, which are seen as a crucial step towards strengthening governance and accountability.
