SoDMA Transfers $700,000 Aid to Awdal Drought Response Committee

Mogadishu (LM) The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has announced the transfer of a significant monetary donation of $700,000 to the Drought Response Committee of the Awdal Region. This funding aims to expedite humanitarian assistance from the federal government amidst ongoing drought challenges.
The donation combines previous contributions from the Cabinet of Somalia, totaling $500,000, and an additional $200,000 from the Benadir Administration. This collaborative effort underscores the unity and coordination of the government’s response to the crisis.
At the donation ceremony, SoDMA Chairman Mr. Maxamuud Macalin Cabdulle remarked, “This donation is a beginning, not an end,” and urged all stakeholders involved in the relief efforts to intensify their contributions, emphasizing that government support alone is insufficient.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur, who stressed the central government’s dedication to addressing the needs of citizens across all regions. Deputy Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Maxamed Cali Xagaa, reinforced the notion that humanitarian assistance is a national obligation.
Other notable attendees included Deputy Minister of Health and Social Care, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bulaale, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Cabdiwahaab Cabdi Cumar (Caana-nuug), and MP Caasho Koos Maxamuud. They collectively expressed gratitude to the nation’s leadership and the Benadir Administration, particularly Governor Dr. Xasan Maxamed Xuseen (Muungaab), for their ongoing support of the Awdal community.
This initiative further solidifies SoDMA’s crucial role in managing and coordinating humanitarian aid throughout Somalia. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing collaboration across all sectors to ensure a sustainable response to the urgent needs of affected populations.
