Somalia Launches National ID Card System for Domestic Travel

Mogadishu (LM)- The Director General of the Immigration and Nationality Agency, Mr. Mustafa Duhulow, today officially launched the implementation of the National Identification Card for domestic travel, aimed at strengthening administrative systems and improving the management of internal travel operations across the country.
The Director General visited the domestic departures terminal, where he received a detailed briefing from the Heads of the Border Department regarding the new procedures, the level of technical preparedness, and measures taken to facilitate services for citizens traveling within the country.
Earlier today, the first group of domestic travelers was officially processed using the National Identification Card, with all procedures conducted in accordance with legal immigration guidelines.
The Director General noted that this initiative will play a significant role in improving the domestic travel system, strengthening border security, and enhancing the monitoring of population movement in line with national laws. He also instructed officers and staff to demonstrate patience and special consideration as citizens adapt to the new system, ensuring that services remain efficient, transparent, and user-friendly.
