Historic Day for Somalia: Prime Minister Hamsa Inspects Voter Registration

Mogadishu-(LM) The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, marked a significant milestone for the Somali people during a visit to a voter registration center in the Shangaani district today. This day is celebrated as the anniversary of the adoption of the Somali constitution, a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.
During his inspection, Prime Minister Hamsa highlighted the ongoing registration of citizens eager to obtain voting cards for the upcoming elections. “This is a victory for the Somali people, who are reclaiming their rights to choose their leaders,” he stated. He underscored the importance of the one-person, one-vote system, emphasizing that it is essential for the democratic process in Somalia.
“The long-standing arbitrary electoral system has deprived our people of their rights,” he said. “The queues of citizens here today demonstrate their readiness to engage in the democratic process and take control of their future.”
The Prime Minister urged all eligible citizens to participate in the registration process, reinforcing that direct popular elections are crucial for the empowerment of the Somali populace. This initiative, he noted, marks a transformative step towards a more democratic and representative governance structure in Somalia.
As the nation moves forward, the Prime Minister’s call to action resonates with many, signaling a renewed hope for a more inclusive political landscape.
