Djibouti and African Development Bank Renew Partnership for Development

Djibouti (LM) Djibouti and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have renewed their development partnership following a recent consultation mission led by Dr. Khaled Sherif, the institution’s Executive Director for Egypt and Djibouti. The mission, which took place from April 4 to 11, included meetings with representatives of the Djiboutian government to discuss advancing the country’s development and economic priorities.
During the visit, the AfDB delegation held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed. The discussions centered on several key initiatives, including a nationwide road network project, the urgent need for additional hospitals and drinking water wells, and strategies to enhance education in rural areas.
“Infrastructure development is at the heart of Djibouti’s ‘Vision 2035’ strategy,” Prime Minister Mohamed stated. This national plan aims to significantly improve the average standard of living by targeting a GDP per capita growth of 10% annually. “Our aim is to foster inclusive and balanced growth, ensuring that all communities benefit and that progress is shared by all,” he emphasized.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to promote development throughout the country as a means to mitigate rural-to-urban migration.
Dr. Sherif praised the strategic plan, noting, “Vision 2035 priorities are fully aligned with the mission of the Bank. We are committed to exploring opportunities to strengthen Djibouti’s engagement with the Bank to achieve its development objectives.”
This renewed partnership underscores the commitment of both Djibouti and the African Development Bank to work collaboratively towards enhanced economic growth and sustainable development in the region.
