China Donates $2 Million and Food Aid to Support Drought-Affected Communities in Somalia

MOGADISHU, March 8 (LM) – China has donated $2 million in financial assistance and food supplies to support people affected by drought in Somalia, officials said.
The donation was formally handed over by the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu to the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, during a ceremony in Mogadishu.
Ambassador Wang said China would continue supporting Somalia, particularly in responding to drought and strengthening efforts to prevent and manage disasters. He highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in humanitarian assistance and social development.
Abdulle thanked the Chinese government and people for their continued support, saying the aid would help communities in 72 districts across Somalia affected by drought, including 45 districts currently facing emergency conditions.
He said the assistance would be used to support vulnerable populations, especially children, women, and families most affected by the ongoing drought.
