Chairperson of the African Union Commission Meets with Ethiopian Airlines CEO

Addis Ababa – H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), welcomed Mr. Mesfin Tasew, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, for a productive meeting to discuss the airline’s pivotal role in supporting the African Union’s initiatives.

During the meeting, the Chairperson praised Ethiopian Airlines as a Pan-African flagship carrier, emphasizing its significant contributions to enhancing connectivity, trade, and mobility across the continent. He noted that these efforts align with the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), highlighting the airline’s support for the AU’s Agenda 2063.

Mr. Tasew expressed his gratitude for the longstanding partnership between Ethiopian Airlines and the AU. He reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to not only providing air transport but also to serving as a Pan-African institution dedicated to the continent’s integration agenda. Mr. Tasew highlighted the airline’s efforts in connecting Africa to global markets, training young Africans in aviation, and supporting national carriers, as well as contributing to AU initiatives like the Peace Fund.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen the partnership between the AU and Ethiopian Airlines, ensuring continued advancements in Africa’s connectivity and integration efforts, all while furthering the goals of Agenda 2063.
